Podcasts Picks of the Day - NPR World Story of the Day and The Daily Giz Wiz

NPR: World Story of the Day
The Origins of the Shia-Sunni Split
Run Time: 9:08

Two very different podcasts today - one serious and informing, the other outright funny.

NPR Story of the day focuses on how and why the Shias and Sunnis split after the death of the prophet Muhammad in 632. Sunnis wanted a community of Muslims to determine who should lead, while Shias believed one of Muhammad's family members should lead. The Sunnis prevailed and violent conflicts followed.

The Daily Giz Wiz
A Visit to the Gadget Warehouse
Run Time: 14:36

Hosted by Leo Laporte and the Giz Wiz Dick DeBartolo, The daily GIz brings the latest gadgets, but not on Fridays. Fridays are reserved for visiting Dick's Gadget Warehouse - the place where old gadgets go to be stored. Typically, the vicariously visit the gadget warehouse (Dick is located in New York, Leo in California). But what I can assume occurred during his trip to New York to be on Regis and Kelly, Leo visited Dick's actual gadget warehouse located in midtown Manhattan. Behind a squeaky door lay ten foot high shelves surrounding the brick room, each shelf crammed with gadgets from years gone by. This episode is a classic if you enjoy The Daily Giz Wiz. If only it had been video. Enjoy.

These podcasts can be found on the NPR website and the TWiT website respectively and iTunes.
