The Daily Giz Wiz
Flag Waver (released July 4, 2006)
Run Time: 11:38
Hosted by Leo Laporte and Mad's Maddest Writer and the Giz Wiz Dick DeBartolo, the Daily Giz Wiz is a Monday thru Friday podcast featuring the latest, hottest gadgets. Started in February 2006, the Daily Giz Wiz has released over 200 podcasts. Dick DeBartolo, writer for the Match game and Mad Magazine, introduces a new gadget each day, the exceptions on Tuesdays and Fridays. Tuesdays are "Turn the Tables Tables", when Leo must present a new gadget to Dick. Fridays are "Warehouse Fridays", when Dick digs deep into the gadget warehouse to pull out an old gadget or a gadget that didn't quite make it in the market. Each episode consists of a daily letter and has the traditonal sign off of Dick "I'll Be Here" and Leo "It Makes It's Own Gravy".
Episode 97 of the Daily Giz Wiz is my favorite podcast of the year. It was released on July 4 and features the flag waver, a patriotic gadget for Independence Day. The laugh fireworks begin to fly when Leo hears Dick describe where and how he views fireworks each year in Manhattan (description starts at 5:50). I've heard that part over twenty times and it never fails to make me laugh. Enjoy.
